Ambassador 4: our everyday workhorse, built in Gothenburg.

The Ambassador 4 is the e-bike we point to ourselves when someone asks what a Swedish-made commuter bike should be able to handle. It is built in our factory in Arendal, Gothenburg, and you can feel that in the construction. The frame is largely cast, which means fewer weld joints and a structure that can withstand Nordic weather year after year.

The battery that takes you far on one charge.

At the heart of the Ambassador 4 is our Gen4 battery, the Ecoride Power Pack 710. It is a 36.9 V battery with 19.2 Ah, equivalent to 710 Wh. The cells come from LG in the 21700 format, and the battery is designed for around 800 charging cycles before capacity starts to decline more noticeably. A full charge takes about five hours, and you reach 80 percent after just two.

The battery is integrated into the frame and locks with the same key as the frame lock, so you can charge it in place or lift it out and take it indoors. It is compatible with both our own Ecoride Drive System and Shimano’s e-bike system, and the same Gen4 battery is used in several of our models.

We state the range as up to 150 km on the lowest assistance level. How far you actually get depends on weight, speed, temperature, and surface. An independent test from Elcyklist measured 132 km with a 92 kg rider in 15-degree weather, which says a lot about what you can expect in a normal commuting week.

Click on, click off.

One of the things we like most about the Ambassador 4 is how easy it is to change what you carry. The bike uses a modular click system with a mount on the front platform and another on the rear rack. The included basket clicks into place with one press and comes off just as quickly, without tools.

That lets the bike adapt to what the day requires: a basket in the morning for groceries, a child seat in the afternoon for pickup, and a bag on the weekend for longer rides. The rear rack can carry up to 27 kg, and the front platform up to 10 kg. Child seats and bike bags from our accessory range use the same mount, so you do not have to rebuild the bike every time your needs change.

Built for urban commuting.

The riding position is upright, giving you a good overview in traffic while reducing strain on your back and wrists. The motor is a 250 W hub motor with 60 Nm of torque and four assistance levels. The drivetrain uses a Gates belt instead of a chain, which means you typically only need service about once a year. The belt does not need lubrication and handles weather and dirt better. The gears are built into the rear hub, and the brakes are Shimano hydraulic disc brakes.

For those who park the bike outside, theft protection matters. The Ambassador 4 has built-in GPS and IoT tracking. If the bike moves when it should not, you receive a notification in the app and the bike emits a sound. The app costs SEK 39 per month, and if you want full protection, our theft insurance is available for SEK 139 per month. If the bike is stolen and reported to the police, you receive a new bike within seven days with no deductible.

This makes it a natural commuter e-bike no matter where you live. If you commute in Gothenburg, you can test ride it near the factory, and we are also available for those looking for an e-bike in Malmö or through our stores and retailers in more locations, including Stockholm. Replacing the car with a bike for the journey between home and work is often the easiest change to start with.

What to keep in mind.

The Ambassador 4 is clearly an urban e-bike, and you can feel it. On asphalt, the comfort is excellent. If you ride daily on gravel or rougher surfaces, you should know that it has no suspension, and on really long rides of several tens of kilometers, the saddle can start to feel firm. For commuting to and from work or school, this is not an issue.

The model is available in 16 versions, from chain drive with a mid-drive motor to belt drive with a hub motor and disc brakes. It comes in sizes S, M/L, and XL, weighs 27 kg, and has a maximum load capacity of 150 kg. We also have models adapted as women’s e-bikes and men’s e-bikes.

If you are unsure what to prioritize, we have gathered our best advice in five things to consider when choosing an e-bike. If you want to read more about the Ambassador or book a test ride, you are welcome to visit one of our stores. The best way to get a feel for a bike is to sit on it yourself.
