A smarter production line – how we improved our assembly process

News

Building an e-bike is not only about components and technology. It is just as much about how the work is organised. Small changes in production can make a clear difference in both quality and speed.

At Ecoride, we recently upgraded our first production line. The goal was straightforward: make the work smoother, remove unnecessary steps and create better conditions for the team assembling our e-bikes.

Less lifting, better flow

One of the biggest changes is a new overhead conveyor system. The bikes are now suspended through a larger part of the assembly process instead of being moved manually between stations.

This reduces heavy lifting. At the same time, the work becomes more precise since the e-bike is always at the right working height. Tools are also positioned within easy reach.

The result is a work environment where physical strain is reduced and the workflow improves.

Better visibility in every step

When materials and components are easier to access, the work naturally becomes faster. The new layout ensures that each station has direct access to what is needed without leaving the workspace.

We have also opened up the production floor. Instead of a strict linear setup, we now work in a more open flow. This makes it easier to communicate, solve problems quickly and support each other.

Issues are spotted faster and can be addressed immediately.

Light and air make a difference

The work environment has a bigger impact than many expect. Improved lighting makes it easier to see details and reduces the risk of errors during the assembly of an e-bike.

We have also improved air circulation. This creates a more consistent working environment throughout the day. It may not always show directly in numbers, but it is noticeable in daily work.

Faster production without compromising quality

The changes had an immediate effect. From day one, we saw an increase in production speed of around 15 percent.

This is not about working faster, but about removing unnecessary steps. When the process works as it should, the pace follows naturally.

At the same time, quality becomes more consistent. Fewer interruptions and a clearer structure ensure that every e-bike is assembled with the same level of care.

A team effort

The most important part of this change is not the technology, but the people.

This has been a shared effort where the entire team has been involved. Adjustments have been made continuously based on how the work actually functions in practice.

At Ecoride, we see this as an ongoing process, not a finished result.

Tools where they are needed

One practical improvement is better access to tools and spare parts. Everything is positioned to be quickly available, both during assembly and when adjustments are needed.

This saves time and reduces interruptions. The work can continue without unnecessary delays.
